Productivity Commission
Empowering national consultation through rapid, inclusive engagement.
The Productivity Commission partnered with Civio to launch a dynamic platform in record time, connecting with Australian citizens and modernising national consultation processes.
The Productivity Commission (PC), Australiaʼs leading independent research and advisory body, traditionally focused consultation efforts on businesses and organisations. To address pressing national issues like Australiaʼs productivity slump, the PC needed to broaden engagement and tap into the insights of everyday Australians.
They envisioned “Australia’s Productivity Pitch,” an initiative to gather citizen ideas, requiring a platform supporting dynamic idea generation and exceptionally rapid deployment.
Facing a critical timeline, the PC sought a partner capable of meeting ambitious goals. Civio was selected for its proven ability to support diverse engagement, rapid deployment, and intuitive tools empowering client independence.
A key aspect was the Commission’s desire to lead platform configuration. Supported by Civioʼs comprehensive knowledge base and responsive support, PC staff fully configured and launched the platform, including “Australia’s Productivity Pitch,” within the demanding two-week timeframe. This client-driven approach was crucial for immediate success.
Civio facilitated the full setup and launch of the new engagement platform within an unprecedented two-week period from contract signing, allowing immediate citizen input on a critical national issue.
The first project supported Australia’s Productivity Pitch by using Civio’s idea board tools, which allowed Australians to submit and discuss suggestions for boosting national productivity. This dynamic alternative to traditional submissions generated more than 500 comprehensive ideas that were approved for public consultation.
Productivity Commission staff led the site configuration, leveraging Civioʼs extensive knowledge base to tailor the platform to their needs without extensive Civio support, ensuring a swift rollout.
The PC team developed a custom SharePoint integration using Civio’s API, allowing survey responses to be automatically posted to a SharePoint workflow and archived for data management. This client-developed solution worked alongside existing systems and addressed their specific operational requirements.
The launch yielded significant positive outcomes:
The platform is now a key tool, with plans to transition formal consultation processes and launch new projects, particularly post-election.
The PC plans to significantly expand its use of the Civio platform. The success of the citizen idea initiative has paved the way for transitioning formal consultation processes, aiming for a unified, accessible and modern engagement experience.
With many new projects anticipated, the Civio platform is set to be integral to the Commissionʼs public engagement and policy development, supporting their mission to enhance Australiaʼs productivity.
The project demonstrates how a flexible, user-friendly platform can empower government agencies to innovate and broaden citizen connection. By meeting an aggressive timeline and providing tools for both immediate idea generation and future formal consultations, Civio equipped the PC to bring more Australians into policy development.
The client-led configuration and custom integration underscore Civioʼs adaptability, positioning the PC to foster inclusive, transparent and impactful engagement.
